Our Story

The Women Rockin’ Parmis Initiative was born when two passionate trekkers - one from Pamir and the other from France - crossed paths in 2015. A summer of roaming together across the Pamirs allowed them to establish a strong bond of trust and to launch a training initiative for women guides, commissioned by the Pamir Eco Cultural Tourism Association (PECTA) in Khorog.

2016

In 2016, a three-week training program for five Pamir women took place thanks to a crowdfunding campaign, donations of material and volunteer work by the entire training team. A professional middle guide joined the team to ensure effective training. Al Jazeera took up the story and broadcasted a special piece on WRIP, touching many and lending notoriety to the project.

2017

In 2017, Women Rockin’ Pamirs received volunteer support from graphic designers who created a logo for the organization.  Panthera, an American association that fights for the protection of the snow leopard, commissioned WRIP to provide training to women gamekeepers in the Pamir Nature Reserves.  In addition, the five women who were trained in the first session in 2016 received additional training in 2017 through an intense week of practical field training.

2018

In 2018, in light of the success of the training programs in Pamir and in order to perpetuate their actions, the WRIP organization was extended to France. Meanwhile, women partners in Tajikistan created the organization Zanon Dar Kuhhoi Pomir.

Since 2018, despite the closure of borders and mobility restrictions due to the COVID-19 epidemic, and the subsequent closure of the association on the Tajik side, WRIP has continued its introductory and training activities for women mountain guides. Some of them have been able to accompany trips organised by French agencies in Tajikistan, as part of the practical training provided as part of our courses.
